According to this article, not only has the US Air Force Research Laboratory made environmentally-friendly batteries that provide continuous power for 30 years possible, they could be commercially available in 2-3 years.

There were quite a few links about this when I googled the subject, so I guess it's no hoax. Could someone with a better head for tech than I have weigh in on the subject? If this is for real, I suspect the retail price will be prohibitive at first but still.. the applications in other fields are staggering. What field couldn't be furthered by a self-sustaining power supply with a lifespan measured in decades?
